It won't look look worse than native 1080p, in fact it'll probably look a bit better because of super sampling. 1080p mode wasn't necessary since it runs at higher than 60fps at 1440p, but i can see them adding it to get close to 120fps. Tl;dr: No need for 1080p, the current resolutions will look better on your screen.

Take the console somewhere with free wifi, mcds or Starbucks etc, and plug it in a wall outlet and turn it on so that it can verify and activate the game. You won't even need to connect it to a screen if you have the console set up to auto connect to wifi. Then unplug and go home and it should let you play the game offline.
